So the question is  – can an older dog learn new tricks??  That would really be, can I learn how to paper piece.  I have books/instructions on the subject by Carol Doak, Mary Knapp, Cynthia England, Jean Biddick, and Peggy Martin.

I have reviewed the instructions in all.  Over the next few posts, I will share my journey into the realm of Paper Piecing.

I really like the idea of paper piecing.  It makes wonderful sense to have your template attached to your fabric and use that as your sewing line.   Great concept.  But, the implementation. . .

First, it starts upside down and backwards.  Then, I sew together two patches, go to fold one out and I’m 1/4 inch short in covering the area needed to cover.  WHY????  I cut the way it said in the book; I sewed a really good 1/4″ seam.  Why do I have to rip it three times before I get it, if not spot on, at least workable.

They almost worked after 2 ripped seams....

So, follow the paper piecing adventure.  The outcome will be a really nice quilt – I hope!!!
