Yes – the quilts of Kentucky are wonderful.
Of course we were in Paducah for the National Quilt Museum. They had a special exhibit of Civil War quilts and SAQA’s Seasonal Palette along with their regular exhibit. The first quilts on the menu were the best of the 2013 show. Amazing work. . . I wish I could have taken pictures. However, they have a new book with photos of almost 300 of the quiilts in the collection. The price was only $16 for this beautiful book – and $1 goes to the Libby Lehman fund. Her quilt is on the cover.
Other works in her studio are just as inspiring. I really saw the value of working in a series (one of the things I started in Cynthia Corbin’s class this summer at QBL) by seeing her series of Feather Studies and her Fibonacci series.
So, I came home inspired and ready to experiment. I bought a DVD and a couple of patterns of her’s to get me started.
Caryl is having a special exhibit at the Quilt Museum from December 6, 2013 to March 11, 2014. If you have a chance, be sure to get there.
