Third trip to QBL

Back from a wonderful week at Quilting By the Lake.  The class listings for 2013 are on the website and are open for registration.

I spent a week with Judi Warren Blaydon.  We were to bring black and white copies of a high-contrast photo.  We then cut them up into a collage with the values of the picture determining the value of the quilt.  It was a wonderful exercise in letting go of preconceived notions and literal interpretation of photos.

I chose a photo from Marrakesh, Moracco. I planned to use the blue of the building and the light green of the cactus.

However, things changed.  As I worked on the collage, I really focused on the shapes in the plants.  What grew is . . .

I still have some work to do – some thread-painting and other embelishments.  But, it was a great class and a fun exercise.  Judi is a wonderful teacher!!!
