Art quilts are produced as art, not as utility pieces. Most times, they are wall hangings, or in some cases sculptural.

My First Art Quilt Inspired by the Jazz Fest

In 2005, the third year of the Rochester International Jazz Festival, we bought our first club passes.  We had access to several venues each night of the Festival.  It was wonderful.  The music was amazing, the people so into the jazz – it was great fun.  Also, it was very inspirational.  It was during a concert by Lew Tabakin, while he was playing Desert Lady on his flute that I had my first original quilt come into my head.  I spent the next year collecting fabric and developing the skills to pull it off.  As it was, I really didn’t know what I was doing when I started.  But, it worked.

Night Music is still one of my favorite quilts.  It started me down the road of quilt design.  I finished it in 2006 and am still threatening to make a second in the “series.”
